Idaho Department of Correction: Resident Search, Visits & Money

This page holds the inmate records we have on file for the Idaho Department of Correction (IDOC). One thing you will notice about Idaho is its language: the state refers to people in its custody as residents or clients rather than "inmates," part of a deliberately rehabilitation-oriented framing. IDOC is a statewide system, so the person you are looking for could be housed at any of its facilities and may be transferred during their sentence — and because Idaho contracts for some capacity, a resident can even be held at an out-of-state facility. The records below are a historical directory of custody entries we hold, a starting point for identifying the right person, not a live count. For more on this facility — history, programs, and what to expect — see our full facility profile.

How to find someone in IDOC

Idaho provides an official Resident/Client Search that is updated daily, where you can look someone up by name or by their IDOC identification number and see their current location. The department notes that data can change quickly and the site may not always reflect the very latest movement, so treat it as authoritative but not instantaneous. On this page you can browse the records we hold by last name (A–Z), gender, or age to narrow a common name, then confirm the current facility and ID number through the state search. If a recently committed person does not yet show a mailing address, that is expected — an address is assigned once they arrive in IDOC custody — so check back if the details are not there yet.

Getting approved and scheduling a visit

Visiting in Idaho starts with a background check: every prospective visitor must complete and submit a visiting application to the institution where the resident is housed, and for out-of-state facilities the application is submitted online through the state's visitor-application form. Once you are approved, visits are approved, registered, and scheduled through ICSolutions — you can book them online at the ICSolutions website or by calling their visitation support line at (888) 646-9437. Each facility sets its own visiting rules and hours, and some, because of their location and weather, have site-specific limitations, so confirm the schedule and format (including whether video visits are offered) for your resident's specific facility before you plan a trip.

Sending money for the resident account

You can add money to a resident's account through JPay, an approved vendor that lets you deposit funds online after creating an account on its Idaho page. If you prefer to mail a deposit, a money order works too — purchase it from a post office and include the resident's full name, their ID number, and the facility mailing address. Funds let a person buy commissary items, hygiene products, and phone or tablet time, and a small, steady balance is usually more helpful than an occasional large deposit. Always double-check the ID number so the deposit reaches the right person, and allow processing time before it can be spent.

Mail and mailing addresses

Mail is a reliable way to stay connected, but every piece is inspected for contraband. Address your letter with the resident's committed name and ID number and the correct facility address; if the system does not yet list a mailing address for a newly arrived person, check back, because one is provided once they are in IDOC custody. As an example of the format, mail to the Idaho State Correctional Institution goes to a facility post office box in Boise (for instance, P.O. Box 14, Boise, ID 83707), and other institutions use their own boxes, so always use the specific address for your resident's facility. Keep letters simple and avoid stickers, glitter, or adhesive that could get a letter rejected, and put the resident's ID number on both the letter and the envelope so nothing is misrouted. Our letter service handles formatting and postage so your mail meets facility rules and reaches the right person.

Phone calls and staying in touch

Phone contact is one of the most dependable ways to stay close, especially given the distances involved in a largely rural state. Calls are placed by the resident out to numbers on their approved list, so set up and fund an account with the facility's phone provider in advance and confirm your number is approved. Many Idaho facilities also offer video and tablet-based options for messaging and visits, which can bridge the gap when an in-person trip is not feasible. For families who talk often, lower-cost calling arrangements can meaningfully reduce the expense of staying in regular contact across a long sentence.

Programs, reentry, and what comes next

Idaho's resident-centered language reflects a system that emphasizes programming and reentry — education, treatment, and work opportunities intended to prepare people to return to the community. If your loved one is engaged in programs, encouraging that participation and helping line up the practical pieces of release — housing, identification, and a support network — improves the odds of a stable transition. Families are central to reentry, and staying consistently involved is one of the most effective things you can do. If a person is still pre-trial in a county jail rather than in IDOC custody, bail through the court may be an option; once in state custody, the focus turns to communication, commissary, and preparing for release.

What the records mean, and next steps

The entries on this page are compiled from public data and reflect a point in time, not a live feed. Because Idaho moves residents between facilities — and sometimes out of state — a record can lag behind a transfer or release, and some fields may be incomplete, which reflects the source rather than the person. Everyone listed is presumed innocent or is serving a sentence after conviction. Confirm the person's ID number and current facility through Idaho's Resident/Client Search, then use this page to keep track and take the next step — submit a visiting application, set up JPay, or mail a first letter. Verify anything time-sensitive with the facility before you travel or send anything.

Frequently asked questions

Browse the records on this page by name (A–Z), gender, or age, or use the search box to look someone up directly. Records can lag behind real bookings.

They are compiled from public records and may be outdated. Always confirm with the facility before you act. An arrest or record here is not evidence of guilt.

The Idaho Department of Correction refers to people in its custody as residents or clients as part of a rehabilitation-oriented approach. Functionally, you find and support them the same way, using the state's Resident/Client Search.

Use the official Resident/Client Search, updated daily, looking up the person by name or IDOC ID number. Data can change quickly, so treat it as authoritative but not instantaneous, and note that a resident may be housed out of state.

First submit a visiting application to the resident's institution and pass a background check (out-of-state facilities use the online form). Then schedule through ICSolutions online or by calling (888) 646-9437. Confirm each facility's specific rules and hours.

Use JPay to deposit online after creating an account on its Idaho page, or mail a money order that includes the resident's full name, ID number, and facility address. Allow processing time before the funds can be spent.

Records are compiled from public sources and may be missing details. An arrest is not a conviction; everyone is presumed innocent. See our data source and disclaimer.
