The Oregon Department of Corrections operates 12 adult correctional institutions across the state, plus a network of community supervision programs. Here is a complete guide for families on locating a loved one, establishing communication, and staying connected.
Finding Your Loved One: Oregon DOC Offender Information
Oregon DOC provides a free public offender search at docpub.state.or.us (also accessible through oregon.gov/doc). Search by name or SID number. The search returns current facility, sentence information, and projected release date for people in state custody or under active supervision.
Newly sentenced individuals are typically assessed and classified at the Coffee Creek Correctional Facility in Wilsonville (for women) or the Oregon State Correctional Institution in Salem (a primary intake point for men). Allow one to two weeks for placement data to update after sentencing.
Phone Calls: GTL / ConnectNetwork
Oregon DOC uses GTL (Global Tel Link) / ConnectNetwork for inmate telephone services. To receive calls:
- Create a free account at ConnectNetwork.com
- Register the phone number where you want to receive calls
- Fund your AdvancePay account
- Make sure your number is on the inmate's approved call list
Inmates call out — you cannot call in. All calls except attorney calls are monitored and recorded.
Sending Money: JPay
Oregon DOC uses JPay for inmate trust account deposits. Go to JPay.com, search the inmate under Oregon DOC, and deposit by card. Fees apply. Money orders to the specific facility are also accepted.
Visiting Oregon State Prisons
General requirements across Oregon DOC facilities:
- Approved visitor list — the inmate submits visitor names through their counselor
- Valid government-issued photo ID at every visit
- Dress code enforced — no camouflage, no blue denim (may resemble inmate uniforms at some facilities), no revealing clothing
- Visiting schedules vary by facility — check oregon.gov/doc under each facility or call the facility before traveling
Oregon's 12 State Correctional Institutions

- Oregon State Correctional Institution (OSCI) — Salem. Medium security, men.
- Oregon Correctional Center (OCC) — Salem. Minimum security, men.

Medical Concerns: What Families Should Do
Given Oregon DOC's recent healthcare crisis — the deadliest period in the department's modern history, two top officials fired for delaying care and retaliating against staff, and $5 million in healthcare settlements — families of people with serious medical conditions should be especially proactive:
- Ask your loved one in every call whether they are receiving their prescribed medications and whether any specialist referrals have been fulfilled
- Encourage your loved one to file medical grievances in writing when care is delayed or denied
- Contact the ACLU of Oregon (aclu-or.org) for unresolved serious medical care failures
